I’ve lost count how many times I’ve done this event. It’s one of my favourites and will definitely be in my race calendar every year I can do it. Arriving at Blaydon Rugby Club for 8am I collected my race number and pinned it on my Bad Boy Running Club top. A short warm up and it was time for the Gateshead Trail 10K 2023.
The Gateshead Trail 10k winds through the Derwent Walk Country Park. It is a fast, fun, and scenic race, with only a few inclines. Although one of them is a bitch! It is a race that is suitable for all levels of runner. Mid-race you will find the race has a section of the route that doubles up creating a fantastic social element. The paths are also well maintained. So, although it is a trail race, the ‘off road’ sections of the path are hard packed and easy to run on. Essentially its a great introduction to world of trail running, away from the busy roads amongst scenery.
The great thing about this race is the photographs. They have numerous photographers located around the course. They snap plenty of pictures which are all uploaded to the Gateshead Trail 10K Facebook page.
That’s it for the Gateshead 10K Trail 2023. I am absolutely thrilled with my result this year. I have knocked eight minutes from last year’s time. I’m definitely on my way back. Plus, it’s all good preparation for the London Marathon.
